Are you worried about craving certain foods? Cravings are very common. Studies have shown that more than 90% of people have frequent desires to eat certain foods.

There are ways to reduce food cravings; for example, by reducing stress.  Stress can create emotional eating; the person can crave what is known as comfort foods and as a result, gain weight.  Some ways to reduce stress are by walking, listening to soft music, practicing deep breathing, talking to someone you trust, for example, a friend, or a family member, or seeking the assistance of a health & wellness coach.

A tip to reduce unhealthy food cravings is to choose snacks and foods that contain healthy fats, proteins, and antioxidants, like fruits or natural fruit juices; these could positively impact your health. Some other examples of healthy snacks are almonds, cashews, and dark chocolate (preferably 70% or above cocoa), Some healthy foods, for example, salmon, greens, and vegetables. Maintaining these snacks and foods at home instead of unhealthy ones can also help to reduce cravings for “not-so-healthy foods”.

Another important point worth mentioning is that sometimes we confuse thirst with hunger.  People tend to reach out for snacks or food when reaching out for a glass of water or a warm cup of tea would reduce the feeling of hunger.  Warm tea can be comforting and reduce the urge to crave. It is a good idea to have healthy snacks and foods at home, instead of unhealthy ones. When craving certain foods, one can reach out to eat but know that at least the products consumed are better quality and healthier for our body.  Adopting a healthier way of eating will help improve the relationship with food.
